The whole school system has been dragged in the mud for very valid and understandable reasons. However, the truth we fail to see is that, wobbly as the the system is, it still works for some people. Yes, you can say it only works only for a small number of people but the sooner we understand that we don’t have to kill the good ole school system to nourish the bouncing baby entrepreneurial system, the better for us.
I believe both can coexist. With this coexistence, people can choose or even combine both. I refuse to believe that the school system is entirely bad and utterly useless. (I think UI is sha.)
I know success is relative. Success could be a yearly vacation in Hawaii to you. It could be never having to repeat outfits and fashion items to me. Each to its own. Nevertheless, we can all agree on the fact that Technology is a better industry than Education. Not only does the former produce more millionaires and billionaires, the former also provide relevant solutions to societal problems and is a significant contributor to global development. (the former also supposedly has more fine boys and girls.) The latter on the other hand, well, the people in the industry get by. And the industry itself, well, it could be worse.
It is obvious at first glance, that only a duffer will choose the latter over the former. I’m writing this post on behalf of duffers that are interested in pursuing a career in seemingly dead industries.
Believe me when I say I love money and I understand how survival can push someone into choosing what is lucrative over passion. I get it. It’s called doing the work you don’t like so you can do the work you like. I also know that we’re in the age of monetizing passions, hobbies and interests.
If you have a talent and it’s not fetching you money, you’re a goat. Doing things for the hell of it is now stupidity because why do it for fun when you can do it and get paid? As a matter of fact, nobody sends the daddy of passion anymore. Our passion now lies where the money is. We’re in this wild race for money. If it isn’t a money based seminar, it’s a prospective millionaire club. (Some of these clubs look like secret cult to me with all their weird names and systems though.)
What we don’t take note of is the fact that a good number of these millionaires and billionaires have interests they sponsor on the side. Interests they pump money into because no matter how much money they make from their lucrative industries, it can’t give them the satisfaction doing something for the hell of it will give them.
Once again, for the sake of emphasis, I love money. I won’t even look at happiness twice if it’s placed side by side with money. If someone gives me small ten thousand dollars like this, I can disown my brother. So that wild race for money I talked about, I’m in it too because bills don’t have empathy and if we don’t have money, who will?
My point now is, when you know people that have found what genuinely interests them and it happens to be in one of these non-lucrative industries, please leave them alone. (What I mean is, try dey shut up sometimes. Not everytime ted talk ted talk. Ugh.)
I have nothing against ted talks but if all you do in your ted talk is condemn what didn’t work for you and glorify what is working for you then you should do more of drinking water and minding your business. While you’re at it, understand that there are no rules to life and you really don’t know as much as you think you do.
I’m a huge fan of doing what resonates with my spirit. I believe in finding my own path and owning it. I’m all for self-discovery, shining bright like a diamond and having lots of fun while at it. And if there’s anything I’m sure of apart from everyone of us dying, it’s that we all have custom-made paths. There’s no one solution that works for everyone. We just need to find what works for us and stick with it. So when someone you know finds what works for them in one of the less privileged industries, leave them alone to stick with it. If they’re genuinely interested in the industry, trust me, they’d make something wonderful out of it.
Let’s try to stop condemning these less millionaires and billionaires producing industries. Let us leave people alone to go for what they want. All these billionaire CEOs didn’t build their companies by following the crowd. They built them by taking the road less traveled because they wanted to. They didn’t go into it for the money. They went into the the industry with solutions. But here we are, building on their solutions and calling those who are going into other industries with new ideas duffers.
Before the 1900’s, the tech industry was just one of the other industries. If these crazy men didn’t leave the lucrative industries of that time to do the dirty work, will you be proud to famz or call yourself a tech bro now? Every industry can be lucrative but how will they be when we won’t allow people who can change the game peacefully join the industry? I know it really doesn’t matter because people who really want to pursue their dreams will do so with or without your unsolicited advice but I just want to rant. (This thing don dey my mind since.)
Leave people alone and stop making them feel like they’re wasting their lives because they’re not following the latest trend. Not everyone will be a business mogul. Not everyone will be a tech bro. Not everyone will a professor. Not everyone will be a forex or crypto trader. (Don’t drown out the voice of people’s destinies with your shallow advice.)
To the duffers: sorry dears. Please continue to resist the urge to follow the crowd and do what resonates with your spirit. Believe in yourself. Express yourself and give the best you can to whatever you find yourself doing. Be crazy. Take the road less traveled and drive traffic to it. There are not many things that’d motivate you the way the result of your efforts will. Especially when the result is superb. Whoooooooooshhhh. Bliss. Cheers to superb results.
Lastly, I hope you have the courage to relentlessly pursue what sets your soul on fire. (And if you haven’t found what sets your soul on fire, drink dry gin. It will set your chest on fire and hopefully the fire will get to your soul.)
Going back to the drawing board. Thanks for this.
