On Tuesday, I mentioned that I’d love to get to know the Holy Spirit better and have a more intimate relationship with him. On Wednesday morning, I opened audiomack to play a sound but I ended up playing Apostle Selman’s series on The Holy Spirit. I’ve had this sermon for months and I’ve never played it. You can’t tell me it’s a coincidence that I played it the day after I talked about wanting more of the Holy Spirit. I mean, I rarely even use audiomack.
When I was living at Agbowo, there are days I wouldn’t have any money because I keep spending money as it comes. I could be without extra money for days in a row but since I started living here at my sister’s place — about N500 away from school — I’ve never been without money. You think this is a coincidence?
This porter at Idia told me she’d submitted her list and couldn’t help me with accomodation anymore. Then she called me by mistake. Then I met her at Agbowo. She’s also always on duty everytime I go to Idia. When the accomodation list came out and I didn’t see my name on it. Shalom told me to beg any of the porters to help me. I told her not to worry that I’m sure I’d get a place without having to beg. I knew what God had said to me. On my way out, I saw the porter again. I greeted her, reintroduced myself to her and turned to leave. Then she called me. She asked if my name was on the list. I said No. She gave me a paper and told me to write down my details. Coincidence?
God is your helper and miracles happen but most times, God helps you through humans and your miracle could be a human being or set of human beings. Just trust and obey.
The big gas wasn’t coming on so we took the small cylinder home alongside the food items we wanted to cook. We realized that there was no gas in the small cylinder. We went back to trying the big gas. In the process of trying, we ran out of matches. Imagine two tired and hungry girls staring at an empty box of matches and a big cylinder that won’t cooperate and telling God, you have to do something Daddy. I wasn’t looking forward to taking a bike out of the estate that late at night. So, I went to ask the gateman who happens to be the nastiest and most difficult old man I know. He said he didn’t have matches because he doesn’t smoke. I decided to go out in search of matches. I went out and saw the gateman with the landlord. The latter was holding a matches. The gateman asked if I had gotten matches and I said no. He went to borrow matches on my behalf and if I hadn’t gone back outside to buy matches, he’d have brought it to me. You can’t tell me this man wasn’t aided. I went inside with the matches and flicked a switch on the gas that wouldn’t come on and guess what? We heard shhhhhh. It worked. Another coincidence?
I was supposed to pay my school fee and every other school expenses by month end but I thought it was going to close so I went to ask anyway. I got the money the same day with a simple “you’re lucky”. Lucky? I think not. I’m not lucky. I’m blessed. I’m a blessed man. God’s word to me is that even if young lions lack, I won’t lack any good thing while I seek the Lord.
God has stamped his goodness on every area of my life. In the littlest things and even in the hugest ones. This is a collection of testimonies and I’m sharing them to tell you that God is intentional about you. God sees you. He knows you. He loves you and he’s helping you.
I’ve seen God chase down people with his love. I’ve seen people breakdown under the overwhelming love of God because when it hits you, the only question on your mind is why? It’s hard for some people to believe God because he’s so simple and so is his motive. He does it because he loves. The natural man doesn’t just love.
When I decided to become the PRO of my department, I had no idea the executives were entitled to a budget. I had no idea that the department was going to make provision for my use of data or whatever I need to carry out my responsibilities. I took the position with the mindset of “oh! I’m volunteering”. The process of preparing the budget and listening to other people defend and analyze the budget taught me a lot about love.
It further proved that the world is the way it is because us humans lack love. We’re selfish and shallow. We lack foresight. We can only see what’s directly in front of us.
The reaction I got when I said I’d bear the cost of all the data I’d need to carry out my responsibilities as the PRO surprised me. A pressman had to ask me if I intentionally didn’t include the cost of data or if I forgot. I said it was intentional and they noted it saying I’d be unable to use lack of data as an excuse if ever the social media page is inactive.
I’m not a good person. I’m just a son of God. The Bible says we are sons of God because we’re led by the Spirit. I’ve seen and I’m still seeing how much I need Jesus. I understand that my natural inclination is not to be kind or loving, my natural inclination as a human is to be selfish. So, when I go out of my way to show love, I understand that I’m being aided and helped by the Holy Spirit. But it’s both sad and shocking that love is now a strange phenomenon. People are surprised when you show love and they can almost swear that you have an ulterior motive.
As Christians, we’ve been called into a life of love and selflessness. We’ve been called into a life of total submission to the Spirit of God. The beautiful thing is that we’re not supposed to do anything on our own. There’s grace to help us. There’s love to help us see and there’s mercy find us and bring us home when we lose our way.
God keeps finding new ways to blow my mind because the more of him I know, the less I see my problems and the more I know I don’t know. There are systems in place to keep you rooted in his love and the life he’s called you to live. All you have to do is allow him.
Don’t try to be a good person because you can’t. Live by the Spirit. Let love guide you.
